His heyday was in the late 1920s when he was engaged at the Hal Roach Studios for a series of Jewish comedies which belong to the best and funniest shorts the studio ever produced. The 2-disc DVD set presents all the existing comedies as well as Davidson's first sound film and documentation of the lost films with rare scripts and more than 300 unpublished stills. All films focus on Davidson as the henpecked Jewish family father who has to struggle with his good-for-nothing son(s) and a daughter who falls in love with a non-Jewish boy. Produktinformation Der in Berlin geborene Max Davidson (1875-1950) ist ein heute weitgehend vergessener Schauspieler des Hollywood-Kinos. Er trat in zahlreichen Filmen in großen und kleinen markanten Nebenrollen auf. 1927 erhielt er einen Vertrag im Hal-Roach-Studio, wo er an der Seite von Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy und Charley Chase spielte und eine eigene Kurzfilmserie erhielt. Diese wurde nach 17 Filmen bereits 1928 wieder eingestellt, weil sich im Studio alles auf die extrem erfolgreichen Filme mit Stand Laurel und Oliver Hardy konzentrierte. Die Doppel-DVD präsentiert erstmals alle erhaltenen Filme der Max-Davidson-Comedies, die urkomisch die Probleme einer jüdischen Familie in den USA beschreiben - mit nichtsnutzigen Söhnen und einer Tochter, die sich zum Entsetzen des Vaters mit nicht-jüdischen Freunden vergnügt. |
