What happened to Comicogs
Comicogs was a community-built database of comics — a Discogs for comics, issue by issue and printing by printing. It went offline with the rest of the -ogs sites, but the database was kept, and it is back here as the comics catalog.
What happened to Comicogs?
It went offline a few years ago, along with Bookogs, Filmogs, Posterogs and Gearogs. Nothing contributed was deleted.
Is the Comicogs data gone?
No. The comics catalog holds about 55,000 comics across 8,000 series, with nearly 4,000 publishers, 21,000 credits and 69,000 images.
Is ctlgs a Discogs for comics?
That is the idea. An issue is not one object: a first printing, a second printing and a variant cover are three things a collector would price differently, and each gets its own entry with its own date, printing and cover. Your own copies then sit under them, one record each, with its condition and where you keep it.
ctlgs is not connected to Discogs. It is a separate site, built by the people who were on Comicogs.
Why not just use the Grand Comics Database?
Use both. The GCD is the deepest comics bibliography there is and it is not trying to be anything else. ctlgs is pointed at a different question: not what was published, but what you own — which printing, in what grade, in which box. If you are documenting comics history, the GCD is the place. If you are documenting a collection, this is.
Are comics separate from books here?
Yes. Comics is its own catalog, agreed that way in the forum: graphic novels, strips and manga belong here, not in books. The dividing line is where the story happens — if the action and dialogue are in illustrated panels it is a comic, and if illustrations decorate a text narrative it is a book.
Is my old collection still there?
Not automatically. Ask on the forum with your old Comicogs username and your contributions, collection and wantlist get attached to your new account.
Do I need a new account?
Yes. Sign in with a forum account at forum.ctlgs.org. Old passwords do not carry over.
