| Notes | Mr. Midshipman Hornblower (1950) is a novel written by C. S. Forester which is part of the Horatio Hornblower series. Although it may be considered as the first episode in the Hornblower saga, it was written as a prequel; the first Hornblower novel, The Happy Return, was published in 1937. Prior to book form the story was serialized in the USA in The Saturday Evening Post, March 6, 1948 – March 11, 1950, and in the UK in Argosy, August 1948 – June 1950. |
