It features the first appearance of the fictional character Gillian Amery, an Australian fashion reporter.
Made into a movie in 1965, titled "Hotel der toten Gäste" replacing the background of Australia's Melbourne Cup to the Sanremo Music Festival, Italy and renaming the main character (played by Karin Dor) to Gilly Powell.
