Gnome Press
Gnome Press was an American small-press publishing company known for publishing science fiction. The company was founded in 1948 by Martin Greenberg and David Kyle. Gnome Press's first book was The Carnelian Cube by Fletcher Pratt and L. Sprague de Camp. Gnome Press was the first to publish Isaac Asimov's I, Robot and Foundation Trilogy, and first published Arthur C. Clarke in book form. Gnome Press was notorious for not paying royalties, which is ultimately what led to its failure. Asimov and other authors were able to reclaim the rights to their publications, and the company failed in 1962. Gnome Press started releasing books on quality paper, but later books were printed on poor quality paper to save money. As a result, the paper on many Gnome Press titles from the mid-1950s onward is prone to browning.
