Blu-ray Disc Association

Blu-ray Disc Association (short BDA) is an association of companies for the development and marketing of the Blu-ray Disc storage medium. In February 2002, nine leading electronics companies, namely Matsushita, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, Samsung and Sony, founded the Blu-ray Disc Founders. The association later changed its name to the Blu-ray Disc Association. They were the counterpart to the DVD Forum, which decided to develop the HD DVD. In 2003 and early 2004, the nine founders joined four other companies: Mitsubishi Electric, Dell, HP and TDK. In order to get even more members and supporters, the Blu-ray Association was finally founded in 2004, which today has over 250 members.
