British publishing company that was formed after Stanley Unwin bought a controlling interest in the company <a href="/c/books/credit/93906/george-allen-company-ltd/">George Allen & Company, Ltd</a>. In 1976 it was renamed <a href="/c/books/credit/29890/george-allen-unwin-publishers-ltd/">George Allen & Unwin (Publishers) Ltd.</a>, the firm was amalgamated in 1986 with Bell & Hyman to form <a href="/c/books/credit/19154/unwin-hyman-ltd/">Unwin Hyman Ltd.</a>
